Grass Sod? or Grass Saud?
FIVE STAR LAWN INSTALLATION SERVICE
Spelling grass saud instead of grass sod is a common mistake made by many people. Now you know that the correct spelling is sod for the actual roll of grass and sodding for the service of installing the grass.
Now, lets answer the question why Grass Sod (Grass Saud) is better than seeding. First, we need to know what sod is all about. Simply, sod is a roll of grass which contains all the root system that the grass need in order to do well in the new sod replacement location. The roll comes with about an inch of soil that preserves the roots. Farmers grow the sod in special farms over large area and when the grass has established enough strong roots, they cut it for the retailers that sell for homeowners to use. Using sod is a much faster and efficient way to establish a flawless green lawn. On the other hand, seeding require repeat seedings, more watering, and more time to invest and watch the process to achieve good results.
Soil health must be tested prior to Grass Sod (Grass Saud) installation. This is a very significant step, as it means that your new grass will easily adapt and flourish in its place. Our test phase ensures that your sod makes your property look lovely.
In most cases, we eliminate all current Grass/Weeds clipping with a sod cutter. In some cases, we use different machines to get the removal process done.
We use a rototiller at this point to turn the soil over. We loosen the soil to aerate the soil and allow the new grass roots to absorb the nutrients in the soil.
Adding amendments to topsoil/ adding soil. If needed, we add the required elements and a layer of fresh topsoil to ensure that the condition of the soil is healthy and nutrient-rich. The topsoil layer is also important because, along with the old lawn, the old soil could be taken out.
The next step is Grading/Leveling the Lawn area. We grade and level the lawn to make sure there are no noticeable bumps and to prevent any puddling of water after a rainfall.
We use a drum roller to roll the lawn area to ensure that grading and leveling are performed in the best possible way, and then we can see if final grading and leveling are required. We will go through phase #5 all over again occasionally.
It is time for new sod replacement & final rolling after the soil is ready. In this stage, we install the fresh sod (brought from the farm on the same day) against the slope of the lawn in a brick pattern to prevent it from sliding. We roll the grass with a drum roller again after the installation is done to remove any air pockets that might result in dead spots on the grass.
This stage may sound straightforward, but we hear the opposite from our customers. Thus, after the job is done, we make sure the site is clean. Most notably, we do not leave you at the very end without giving you guidance on how to maintain the new lawn, including Guide to Watering for Fresh Sod Replacement.
